Afreximbank Annual Meeting
The African Export Import Bank (Afreximbank) hosted its 31stAnnual Meeting (AAM) under the theme: “Owning Our Destiny: Economic Prosperity on the Platform of Global Africa,” from June 12-14, in Nassau, the Bahamas. At this year’s edition, the first in the Caribbeans, the 3rd AfriCaribbean Trade and Investment Forum (ACTIF2024) was incorporated in the official program. During the three days, over $3 billion of deals were signed between Afreximbankand its African and Caribbean partners. The 2024 AAM saw the participation of H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, President of Ghana; H.E. Umaro Mokhtar Sissoco Embaló, President of Guinea Bissau; H.E. William Ruto, President of Kenya; H.E. Irfaan Ali President of Guyana; and H.E. Chan Santokhi President of Suriname; The Hon. Mia Mottley of Barbados; The Hon. Philip J. Pierre of St. Lucia, and The Hon. Dickon Mitchell of Grenada. Former Prime Ministers The Most Hon. P.J. Patterson of Jamaica and H.E. Hailemariam Desalegn of Ethiopia as well as Former Presidents including H.E. Macky Sall of Senegal, H.E. MahamadouIssoufou of Niger, H.E. Olusegun Obasanjo of Nigeria and former Vice PresidentH.E. Yemi Osinbajo were also in attendance. Florizelle Liser, President and CEO, Corporate Council on Africa was invited to speak on the High-Level PolicySession on “An Emergent Global Africa: A Platform for Sustainable EconomicTransformation” alongside eminent panelists such as Hon. Gobind Ganga, Governor of the Bank of Guyana, Hon. Ludovic Ngatse, Minister of Budget Public Account and Portfolio, Republic of Congo, Hon. Sen. Michael Brian Halkitis, Minister of Economic Affairs, the Bahamas, Mrs. Arunma Oteh, Executive in Residence &Member, Global Leadership Council SAID Business School, University of Oxford and Hon. Abena Osei-Asare, State Minister in the Ministry of Finance, Ghana.Panelists acknowledged the synergies that could be created by deeperpartnerships within the Global Africa as well as the central role of theAfrican Continental Free Trade Area to achieving a more integrated GlobalAfrica. Ms. Liser indicated that according to the Association of African American Financial Advisors African American wealth in the U.S. could reach an astounding $103.47 trillion by 2050 which offers an untapped source of funding for the Global Africa.
